Iowa’s cities have scored a decisive victory in a long-running legal battle between urban and rural interests over the delivery of water to undeveloped areas of the state. (Photo courtesy of Des Moines Water Works)

Both the Des Moines Water Works and the West Des Moines Water Works have closed their offices to the public, so payments will need to be made online or by phone or mail.

Des Moines Water Works also has suspended home service calls except for emergencies. The utility serving nearly a half-million people also won’t cut off anyone’s service for deliquent bills for now.

The changes are in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
