The Secretary of State’s office is closing its lobby due to COVID-19.

The Iowa Secretary of State’s Office has closed its lobby in the Lucas Building in Des Moines through March 27 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The office is directing customers to its Fast Track Filing (FTF) system or its legacy filing system.

The following can be filed through FTF (https://filings.sos.iowa.gov):  certificate of organization, articles of incorporation, certificate of authority, statement of change of registered office or agent, fictitious name resolution.

Filings submitted through FTF can be approved the same day if filed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is free to register and there are no additional fees when using FTF, according to a news release.

The office has also announced a new process for expedited filing:

  • Start by submitting the filing through the legacy system here: https://sos.iowa.gov/file/origination/index.aspx.
  • If your filing needs to be completed that same day, send a follow-up email to [email protected], and provide the name of the entity and tracking number. In order to have your filing done that day, it must be received no later than 2 p.m. and must mention the request in the text of the email.
  • You can also fax your filing to 515-242-5953. Please include a credit card authorization form with all filings submitted this way. The filing will be emailed back to you by the close of business that day.
