Rally on Thursday to oppose new livestock confinements

By: - January 21, 2020 4:41 pm

Iowa Citizens for Community improvement plans a rally Thursday at the Wallace State Office Building in favor of a moratorium on construction or expansion of livestock confinements. More than 100 people are expected to attend.

The nonprofit consumer/environmental group has long contended that large-scale confinements are making neighbors sick, are a major source of water pollution and emit odors that are a nuisance.

The national nonprofit Food & Water Action and Iowa the Alliance for Responsible Agriculture also are participating in the rally from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The groups will meet with lawmakers and will hear a string of speakers at the Wallace building.
